Performers’ Insights into this is not natural [transfiguration]

Although you ended up not using the video-scores constructed for the premiere performance of this is not natural, you not only took individual turns with the scores (as can be seen below), but also watched at considerable length the group video-scores and an excerpt of Bill Viola’s continuously inspirational video-art piece Quintet of the Astonished (Bill Viola, 2011).

What I find most striking about the premiere performance of this is not natural is the sense of captivation that the technological mediation brings into play and how enriching that confrontation becomes. Accounting for the residual material of this is not natural my video-scores (both individual and group), the videotaped performance of this is not natural and Viola’s Quintet of the Astonished, I have a question regarding predisposition. Are you…

a. …imaginatively constructing your own internal video-score?

b. …visualizing something completely different?

c. … at a point of embodiment where physical sensations (such as moving and/or listening)             supersede visualization and imagination?

d. … moving in and out of a-c with or without recourse to additional modes of performance knowledge?
